Patal Pani is a beautiful waterfall and picnic spot near the industrial city of Indore in the state on Madhya Pradesh, India. The waterfalls is approximately 300 feet in height. The depth of the water pit at the bottom of the falls remains unknown (cite?). According to Indian folklore, it goes deep down to the underground world (patal). The spot is also well-known for trekking and hiking. The fall runs almost dry in the summer season and the stream is reduced to a trickle. However, the waterfall flows in full glory during the monsoon season(usually after late June).
Location: Patalpani is located on the Indore - Khandwa train route; The nearest train station is Patalpani itself. Patalpani can be reached by foot from the train station or from the town of Mhow which is 6 kM awaw. All goods and passenger trains stops at patalpani station. This is a technical stoppage before entering the ghat section of the rail line.
Best time to visit: Aug and Sept (Monsoon period)[WARNING: FLASH FLOODS]
How to reach :
a)(by train) : Patalpani railway station is on the Indore - Mhow (meter gauge) line. The best way to reach the waterfall is to take a train to Patalpani station. The waterfall is about 15-20 mins walk from the rail station. The waterfall is about 5-6 km away from the town of Mhow itself. In addition to waterfalls just adjacent to railway station is the river itself. The whole area is a very beautiful place specially during the monsoon season. The train services cah however be are irregular (I did not say late) therefore it would be useful to note the timing of the train to and from Patalpani station.
b) by road: The waterfalls of Ptalpani can be reached by road from the town of Mhow.
The Mhow Patalpani (Station Code:PTP) is one of the local railway stations of Indore City.
Patalpani waterfall is a famous picnic spot near Indore. However there are possibilities of flash flood during monsoon.
